A fire broke out on a container ship near the U.S.-Canadian border

The fire broke out on the container ship Zim Kingston, located near the border between Canada and the United States. The Global News channel reported this.

According to him, a few days ago, about 40 containers fell into the sea from a ship flying the Maltese flag due to bad weather. Currently, Zim Kingston is anchored in the Strait of Juan de Fuca between the city of Port Angeles (Washington) and the Port of Victoria (British Columbia).

According to the Canadian Coast Guard, the fire is associated with two containers containing dangerous substances. The U.S. Coast Guard said on Twitter that, together with Canadian colleagues, it is monitoring the ship and the containers on it.

As the CityNews TV channel journalist John Ackerman reported on Twitter, 10 crew members were evacuated from the ship after the fire. Information about the number of remaining sailors on the ship and whether the fire was extinguished is not provided.
