A new strain of coronavirus infection has been discovered in Vietnam. Local authorities called it a hybrid of the British and Indian strains, noting that this type of virus quickly spreads through the air and is transmitted from person to person. This was reported on May 29 by VnExpress with reference to the country’s health minister Nguyen Thanh Long.
According to the head of the department, the emergence of a new strain has affected the growth of the disease in the country — it has become increasingly difficult to control, even despite the anti-epidemic measures taken.
According to the Ministry of Health of Vietnam on May 29, over the past day, 87 more cases of COVID-19 infection were detected in the country. Since the beginning of the pandemic in Vietnam, almost 7 thousand people have been infected. The victims of the coronavirus were 47 people.
On May 22, scientists from the UK reported on a new “triple mutant” variant of the coronavirus, which is characterized by an unusual combination of genes called VUI-21MAY-01, or AV.1. According to experts, 49 cases of a new type of virus have been recorded among residents of Yorkshire and the Humber. On the same day, the general director of the Vector center, Rinat Maksyutov, said that 10 genomes of the Indian strain of coronavirus were identified in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and the Pskov region, 370 genomes of the British strain and 27 of the South African variant were identified.
