Scientists from the University of California in San Francisco have discovered a new property of the estrogen receptor, which in the future will help fight cancer. One of the study’s authors, Dr. Chen Xue, told about the discovery to the British medical portal Medical Xpress.
As a rule, cancer cells have a high degree of resistance to drugs. Experts have found out that this is also due to the estrogen receptor: previously, such a function of this group of proteins was unknown.
According to the researchers, the results of their work will help to understand how to overcome the resistance of malignant cells to drugs and increase the effectiveness of treatment for a deadly disease.
More detailed information about the study results by scientists from the University of California will be published this week in the journal Cell.
