An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 occurred off the coast of the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines; a tsunami threat has been declared, according to American seismologists.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the tremors was located 145 kilometers from the city of Davao – the main port of the island, the focus lay at a depth of 50 kilometers.

According to the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center, the occurrence of dangerous waves is possible within a radius of 300 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake.
