The U.S. Secretary of State made a statement regarding the recognition by the Russian President of the independence of the DPR and LPR.

The United States strongly condemns the decision to recognize the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics as independent states. This is stated in a statement by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“As we said when the Duma came up with a proposal: this decision represents a complete rejection by Russia of its obligations under the Minsk Agreements and directly contradicts Russia’s stated commitment to diplomacy and is a clear attack on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.

The head of the American Foreign Ministry said that the countries of the world are obliged not to recognize a new “state” “created by the threat or use of force.”

“Russia’s decision is another example of President Putin’s blatant disrespect for international law and norms,” Antony Blinken said.

“President Biden will sign an executive order prohibiting new investments, trade and financing by American individuals with, from or in the so-called regions of the DPR and LPR of Ukraine. We will continue to coordinate our actions with Ukraine, our allies and partners to take appropriate steps in response to this gratuitous and unacceptable action by Russia. The executive order is intended to prevent Russia from profiting from this blatant violation of international law,” the U.S. Secretary of State explained.

He assured of the steadfastness of the U.S. position on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“We show solidarity with our Ukrainian partners in strongly condemning President Putin’s statement,” Antony Blinken stressed.
