The focus is on the issue of the cessation of hostilities and the possible future neutrality of Kyiv.

President Biden spoke by phone with the leaders of four European states on Tuesday. The conversation was devoted to the situation in Ukraine. It was attended by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

The participants of the conversation discussed developments in and around Ukraine, including the course of the Ukrainian-Russian talks in Istanbul and further Western measures to deter the Russian invasion.

Negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian sides began on Tuesday and will continue this week. According to the results of the first day, it became known that Moscow may stop a massive offensive in the area of Kyiv and Chernihiv, and official Kiev may agree to discuss the status of Ukraine’s future international neutrality while ensuring security guarantees from the world community.

The conversation between Biden and European leaders took place two days after the U.S. president returned from a tour of Europe.

Western media indicate that, thanks to the efforts of President Biden, the unity of the West’s position on Ukraine has strengthened, which is a necessary condition for resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
