US President Joe Biden is convening a “Summit for Democracy,” which will be held via videoconference on December 9-10 this year. This is stated in a statement posted on the White House website on Wednesday.
“President Biden is pleased to announce that in December he will gather the leaders of the <…> world democracies to a virtual “Summit for Democracy,” after which a second summit with a personal presence will be held in about a year, ” the statement says.
It is noted that at the upcoming summit, three fundamental topics will be considered: protection from authoritarianism, the fight against corruption, and respect for human rights. A year later, “Biden invited world leaders to reconvene to present progress in advancing these initiatives,” the statement said. “Both summits will bring together leaders of states, civil society, philanthropists, and leaders of the private sector,” the White House said.
