Biden did not rule out extending the U.S. mission in Afghanistan

U.S. President Joe Biden said at the G7 meeting that he still intends to withdraw troops from Afghanistan by August 31 but did not rule out extending the US mission in the country, The New York Times reported, citing an official source.

“According to a senior administration official, Biden said that he intends at the moment to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan by the deadline he set on August 31, citing the high risk of a terrorist attack. But the president said that there is a possibility of extending this mission; the representative said,” the newspaper writes.
