Biden extends state of emergency against Syria

US President Joe Biden has extended the national security emergency against Syria.

“I extend for one year the regime of the national emergency declared in connection with the actions of the Syrian government,” the decree says.

The extension of the emergency regime allows the United States to continue blocking the property and assets of some persons associated with the Syrian government, and to prohibit the export of certain goods to this country.

In addition, Biden signed similar decrees on the extension of the emergency regime related to the situations in the Central African Republic and Iraq. As follows from the text of the decree, the emergency regime associated with Syria was declared on May 11, 2004, during the administration of President George W. Bush.
