US President Joe Biden has extended sanctions against Cuba, the White House said.

We are talking about the sanctions regime of 1996, supplemented in 2004, 2016, and 2018.

In particular, Biden confirmed the ban on US-registered vessels entering the territorial waters of Cuba without the permission of the US authorities, as this could lead to “a mass migration from Cuba.”

The Obama administration, under which Biden was vice president, lifted some sanctions against Cuba and took steps to improve relations. Under Donald Trump, the US has brought back many sanctions against Cuba. At the same time, the trade embargo imposed by Congress has remained unchanged for more than half a century. Biden has not yet taken any steps that indicate a revision of Trump’s policy towards Cuba.
