The President issued a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Religious Freedom.

U.S. President Joe Biden said he was proud to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to religious freedom, enshrined in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and lead global efforts to protect freedom of religion and belief for everyone and everywhere.

“The promotion and protection of religious freedom are as important for everyone today as it has always been,” Biden said in a statement on the occasion of International Religious Freedom Day.

“Tragically, repressive governments, violent extremists, and other actors of society continue to persecute and mistreat individuals and groups solely because of their religious affiliation, practices, or beliefs,” the President continued. – Such disgusting actions violate human rights and offend human dignity. And repressions that suppress religious freedom undermine political stability and economic development.”

Biden assured that the United States “will continue to rally the world community to protect and promote freedom of religion and belief, including through multilateral coalitions.”
