Black actors were left without Oscars for the main roles

From 2024, new rules will come into force when selecting Oscar nominees, which will require the presence of a certain number of minority representatives in films.

Black actors did not win the Oscars for either Best Actor or Best Actress at the 93rd awards ceremony. However, at least in the first case, the favorite was African-American Chadwick Boseman. ABC broadcasted the ceremony.

Boseman was nominated for an Oscar posthumously. The winner of the nomination, 83-year-old Anthony Hopkins, who became the oldest winner in this category, already has one statuette. In numerous media forecasts, the victory was given most often to Boseman. Among the contenders was Riz Ahmed, the first Muslim to be nominated for an Oscar in this category.

Among the contenders for the Oscar for Best Actress, two of the five nominees were black – Viola Davis and Andra Day. Thus, the awards in both categories could go to blacks.

Hollywood is increasingly focused on making movies reflect how diverse society is in the United States. From 2024, new rules will come into force for selecting Oscar nominees, which will require the presence of a certain number of minority representatives in films.
