Bombardier Global 6500 makes maiden flight

The Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft, equipped with an aerial reconnaissance and electronic warfare system (ARES), made its maiden flight from the company’s plant in Waco, Texas.

L3Harris Technologies completes the first flight of a US Army Airborne Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare (ARES) aircraft. It will expand the capabilities of the US Army for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance – ISR.

ARES is an Airborne Reconnaissance and Electronic Attack System (ARES) that increases the range of an ISR.

The ARES system is located on a Bombardier Global 6000/6500 business jet. The aircraft can carry up to 6 thousand kg of payload. He also flies at an altitude of over 12 thousand meters for 14 hours and activates high-precision fire at long distances to counter distant threats.

The extended range of ARES also reduces mission risks by eliminating the need to operate near difficult or closed borders, which is not possible with low-altitude and short-range sensing systems.

The company won the contract to build ARES in November 2020.
