The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that, in addition to the new EU sectoral sanctions against Russia, he will propose new lists of personal sanctions against individuals and organizations.
“European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has just outlined new EU measures regarding trade, market access, and Russia’s membership in international financial organizations, crypto assets, luxury exports and measures against the steel and energy sectors. In addition to these sectoral measures, I am putting forward a proposal to impose sanctions against more individuals and organizations that play an active role or support those who undermine the sovereignty of Ukraine,” Borrell said in a statement.
He explained that his proposals “will continue to hit the oligarchs, the elite associated with the regime, well-known businessmen and their families… The measures will also affect more people playing a leading role in disinformation and propaganda.”
It is expected that a new package of anti-Russian European sanctions may be proposed as early as Saturday.
