ANKARA – Minister of National Defense of Turkey Hulusi Akar stressed that the acquisition of the Russian air force is a matter of supplying the army with the necessary weapons.
Ankara’s purchase of the S-400 from Russia does not mean that it is moving away from NATO. On Friday, Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar stated this.
“Turkey fully and timely fulfills all obligations to NATO. No question about the fact that buying S-400, we are moving away from the Alliance, does not go”, – quotes the Minister the TV channel Haberturk. Acar also “abruptly rejected attempts to link the purchase of the C-400 to the F-35 project.” According to him, the acquisition of Russian air defense systems is a “matter of supply” of the army with the necessary weapons.
The first reports of negotiations between Russia and Turkey on the supply of S-400 appeared in November 2016. The conclusion of the contract was confirmed by the Russian side on September 12, 2017.
