British cyclist Mark Cavendish repeated the record of the legendary Belgian Eddie Merckx for the number of victories on the stages of the Tour de France.
Cavendish (Deceuninck-Quick Step) won the sprint on Friday on the 13th stage of the Tour de France with a finish in Carcassonne. The second was his teammate, Dane Mikael Merkev, the third was Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix).
This is his 34th victory on the stages of the “Big Loop” in his career; he repeated the record of Merckx.
The stage did not make any serious changes to the general classification of the Tour de France, where Slovenian Tadej Pogacar from UAE continues to lead.
