Most of this amount is proposed to be spent on the care of children who arrived in the country without parents.
The House of Representatives of the US Congress approved an emergency bill to allocate funding of $ 4.5 billion to address the problem of the continuous influx of migrants on the border of the United States and Mexico.
The draft law on the allocation of additional money for the financing of humanitarian assistance and security on the southern border with Mexico was adopted by 230 votes against 195.
According to the document, more than one billion dollars will be allocated to provide housing and food for migrants detained by border patrols. And almost three billion dollars will go to care for children who arrived in the country without parents.
In addition, the bill calls for the development of protocols for the care of children, provides for the improvement of standards in care centers, as well as the provision of interpreters.
The version of the bill, prepared by the Senate, proposes to allocate almost 4.6 billion dollars to resolve the border humanitarian crisis and has significant differences from the bill of the House of Representatives. It is not clear whether the two chambers will be able to reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, the White House said that they were “categorically against” the bill of the House of Representatives.
For his part, US President Donald Trump has already announced the mass deportation of illegal immigrants. “They will be sent as quickly as they came,” the head of the White House assured.
Experts estimate that there are 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States, mostly from Mexico and Central America.
