Divers have discovered the suspected source of an oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico

We are talking about an abandoned pipeline at a depth of about 10 meters.

Divers have discovered the alleged site of a leak of petroleum products in the Gulf of Mexico. This was reported on Monday by CNN, citing a statement by the American oil and gas company Talos Energy.

According to her, we are talking about an abandoned pipeline with a diameter of about 30 cm, lying at a depth of about 10 m. The company stressed that, as the divers managed to establish, the pipeline shifted at the bottom of the bay, bent and a crack formed in it, from which oil could flow.

Representatives of Talos Energy stressed that the broken pipeline does not belong to the company, which curtailed work in this area of the Gulf of Mexico in 2017. Two years later, it completed the dismantling of its equipment. “The source of the [oil] spill has no connection with the clogged wells or the former sites of Talos’ underwater development,” the statement says.

Earlier, Reuters reported that Talos Energy revealed a decrease in the rate of an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 3.2 km off the coast of Louisiana. According to the official representative of the company, Brian Grove, no new traces of oil were noticed at the scene for 24 hours. He also stressed that “no damage to the coastline or wildlife was observed.”
