Erdogan accused the US of demonizing Muslims

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has accused the United States of a strategy to demonize Muslims, which is spreading Islamophobia in the West.

“Following the terrorist attacks of September 11 (2001), the US authorities began to pursue a strategy of demonizing Muslims, which caused the spread of anti – Islamic sentiment in many societies where the virus of hatred of Islam was already present,” Erdogan said, speaking at a symposium on Islamophobia in Ankara.

According to him, Islamophobia is spreading like cancer all over the world, especially in the West, and hostility to Islam has manifested itself in many tragedies – from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Myanmar. Radical trends that were previously considered marginal are now influencing the political agenda, and this once again shows that the West is in a swamp, sinking deeper into this dangerous trend, Erdogan said. “Those who consider the genocide of the Jews during the Second World War a special exception are now rallying the anti-Islamic ranks. In fact, they are not against Islam, but against their future,” the Turkish president added.
