The Turkish leader stressed that the European Union needs structural changes and a decision-making mechanism.
“The biggest obstacle to the EU becoming a strong global player is the lack of strategic patience and vision,” Erdogan said in a message to mark the EU’s May 9 celebration of Europe Day.
According to him, Turkey continues its resolute work on the path to EU membership, “this is its strategic goal, despite the double standards and obstacles to which it is subjected.”
Turkey applied for membership in the European Union in 1987. But accession negotiations only began in 2005. The issue of EU membership is one of the most important topics for discussion in the country.
