An unknown person stole a purse from former German Chancellor Angela Merkel when she was shopping in a supermarket, Bild reports.
Merkel, who ended her sixteen-year term as chancellor in December, even went to the grocery store herself during her chancellorship.
On Thursday, she went to a supermarket on Morsestrasse in Berlin. Her wallet was in the shopping cart. Neither Merkel nor her security guard noticed how an unknown person stole it from there.
The Chancellor did not call the police, but went to the nearest police station and there wrote a statement about the theft.
According to Bild, the police confirmed that on Thursday in one of the supermarkets “a 67-year-old woman” had her wallet stolen at about 11.40. The police did not name the victim because it is prohibited by German law.
