Atlas VPN conducted a study of the most common cyber attacks in the first half of 2021. Cybersecurity experts provided a report that highlighted the most popular tools that hackers use to attack victims’ computers and smartphones.
Cybersecurity experts from Atlas VPN have named the most recently detected virus. The most dangerous and at the same time popular among cybercriminals is malware for mining. Attacks with such a virus are called cryptojacking. They are used for unauthorized use of someone else’s PC for cryptocurrency mining.
Typically, these viruses enter the computer when the victim unknowingly installs malware through a phishing link. As a result, the hacker gains access to the user’s device and can mine using other people’s resources. It is reported that in the first half of 2021, almost 75,000 such threats were detected.
The most common mining viruses are MalXMR, Coinminer, ToolXMR, CoinMine and MalBTC.
Also on the list of popular cyberattack tools is the WannaCry worm, which is used to extort money and ransom valuable information from victims.
