Fires in Greece destroyed about 100 houses

Forest fires are raging in the northern suburbs of Athens, which have already destroyed about 100 houses. The NewsIT edition reports this with reference to the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Anti-Crisis Management of Greece, Nikos Hardalias.

According to the official, the fire near the village of Varibobi covered about 1.2 thousand hectares of land. Because of it, 76 houses were completely burned down; another 18 were damaged.

Hardalias also said that the fires caused damage to 27 businesses in the district. The fire damaged dozens of vehicles: 82 cars were destroyed, 64 cars were partially burned. According to the ministry, people were not injured.

Earlier, the capital of Greece was under threat due to large-scale forest fires. The fire started on the afternoon of August 2 at the foot of Mount Parnassus. The fire engulfed dozens of houses and public catering establishments. As a result, more than 300 people were evacuated from Varibobi and two neighboring villages. More than 500 firefighters and five helicopters were sent to extinguish the fire.
