At least five people were killed after a car rammed into participants of the Christmas parade in the city of Waukesha (Wisconsin). This was reported by the local branch of the CBS television company with reference to representatives of the authorities.

At approximately 16:39, a red SUV rammed the participants of the Christmas parade. Five people were killed and 40 others were injured. At least 28 people were hospitalized, three are in critical condition. As CBS emphasizes, residents of nearby areas of the city are asked not to leave their homes.

According to the chief of the Waukesha Police Department, Dan Thompson, at the disposal of law enforcement officers is a car allegedly involved in the incident. In addition, they managed to detain “a person of interest to the investigation.” It is not specified whether we are talking about the driver of the car.

He also stated that at the moment law enforcement officers do not have information that would indicate that the incident is related to terrorism.

Earlier, CBS claimed, citing a source, that after the car drove into the crowd, shots rang out at the scene. The media noted that the driver probably fled the scene. Spectators and participants of the parade have been evacuated.

The video, which is distributed by Twitter users, shows how a red SUV drives into the participants of the parade and leaves the scene. Another video shows, presumably, the same car moving at high speed along the route of the Christmas parade, the very moment of the incident is not recorded. Another video shows an SUV knocking down fences in the parade area.
