French President Emmanuel Macron at a meeting of the country’s defense Council spoke in favor of strengthening economic and financial sanctions against the Russian Federation, including those affecting the SWIFT system, Agence France-Presse reports with reference to the Elysee Palace.

The French president spoke in favor of “strengthening economic and financial sanctions in coordination with the Europeans and Americans,” as well as for “national measures to freeze the financial assets of Russian individuals.” In addition, Macron called for “new measures” to be taken “with European partners regarding the Swift system,” the agency notes with reference to the Elysee Palace.
