JAPAN – The Ministers of energy and environment of the Group of Twenty (G20) countries at a two-day meeting on Saturday in the resort town of Karuidzawa will discuss energy security and efficient use of natural resources. The meeting is being held in preparation for the G20 summit to be held in Osaka from 28 to 29 of June.
The development of a common position on energy and climate issues is a difficult task since the situation in the G20 countries is different from each other. The Minister of economy, trade, and industry of Japan Hiroshige Seko expressed his opinion at the G20 Ministerial meeting opened on Saturday in the Japanese city of Karuidzawa.
“The situation on energy and climate change is different among the G20 countries, and it is not easy to combine all this in a single message on these issues,” Seko noted.
On Friday, the Minister of economy, trade, and industry of Japan said that in the light of the recent attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, the participants of the meeting in Karuidzawa will pay significant attention to energy security and stable supplies of hydrocarbons. One of the main topics of the environmental part of the meeting will be the reduction of plastic debris, including in the oceans, and efficient energy consumption.
It is expected that on Sunday the participants of the Ministerial meeting will adopt a joint statement.
