Georgia has sent an application to Brussels for the status of a candidate for membership in the EU; the corresponding document was signed by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
“Today is a historic day for Georgia: I am signing an application for EU membership on behalf of the country,” the politician said in his video message.
According to him, the “European future” is the choice of the Georgian state and people.
“Applying for EU membership is another important step on Georgia’s path to European integration, a stage that opens a new page in our history and continues the efforts of our ancestors aimed at uniting in a single European family. Georgia is a European state. Throughout its centuries-old history, our country has always belonged to the space of European culture and civilization and even today makes its valuable contribution to its protection and development,” Garibashvili added.
