German Finance Minister Christian Lindner at an extraordinary summit of EU foreign ministers in Paris called for personal sanctions against Russian President and Foreign Minister Vladimir Putin and Sergey Lavrov, the DPA news agency reports with reference to the negotiators.

According to the agency, such a measure is necessary from the point of view of Germany, since the President of the Russian Federation and the Foreign Minister bear “personal responsibility for the offensive war violating international law.”

The minister also told colleagues that Berlin considers it “permissible” to disconnect Russia from the SWIFT interbank system if the EU countries come to a consensus that this way additional pressure can be exerted on Russia.
