Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro smartphone production will remain in China due to COVID-19

Last year, Google decided to move its production lines from China to Vietnam. But these plans were thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Asian governments have begun tightening border controls due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, according to the Nikkei report. As a result of travel problems and “limited engineering resources” in Vietnam, Google will have to continue manufacturing in China.

It is reported that the Pixel 5 smartphones were supposed to be assembled in Vietnam, but the plans were not crowned with success. Moreover, the new Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will also be assembled in China – in the city of Shenzhen.

By the way, this is not the only company stuck in the Middle Kingdom. Apple has also planned to move a small portion of the MacBook and iPad production line to Vietnam, but is unable to do so yet.

We will remind, the official presentation of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will take place in the fall, but there is no exact date yet. Both models will receive the Tensor SoC, a proprietary system on a chip designed for the new “pixels.” Google also promises Android 12, new design, finishes and an updated larger camera system.
