The length of the wall is supposed to be increased three times.

The Greek authorities announced plans to significantly increase the length of the wall on the border with Turkey and their intention to request financial support from the EU for additional construction.

The Minister of Migration Affairs said that the length of the steel wall will be increased from 40 to 120 kilometers. Construction work is expected to begin this year.

Last year, twelve countries, including Greece, requested funds from the EU for border walls, which are currently funded from national budgets.

Currently, the European Commission does not pay for the construction of walls on the external borders of the bloc, stating that this will divert funds from other migration-related activities, including funding for the EU border protection agency Frontex.
