The UN reported that the head of the organization wants to discuss urgent measures to establish peace in Ukraine.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to receive him to discuss steps to establish peace after the Russian invasion of a neighboring country.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the relevant letters had been sent to the Permanent Missions of Russia and Ukraine. In them, Guterres asked Putin to receive him in Moscow, and Zelenskiy to receive him in Kyiv.

“The Secretary General stated that in the current time of serious danger and consequences, he would like to discuss urgent steps to establish peace in Ukraine and the future of multilateral relations based on the UN Charter and international law,” Dujarric said in a statement.

Guterres on Tuesday called for a four-day humanitarian pause in the fighting in Ukraine in connection with the Orthodox Easter to allow civilians to safely leave the conflict areas and deliver humanitarian aid to the affected areas.
