Briton Anthony Joshua could not defend three world titles, losing to Mexican Andy Ruiz.
Mexican boxer Andy Ruiz won the fight for the title of world Boxing champion in the heavyweight division of the WBA Super, IBF, and WBO, taking all these titles from the British Anthony Joshua. The match ended with a technical knockout in the seventh round. The fight took place at Madison Square Garden stadium in New York.
“Without my father, it would be impossible, and I’m just happy. This is what I dreamed of, and I can’t believe I made my dreams come true,” Ruiz said, quoted by the BBC.
Joshua after the fight said that he lost to a worthy opponent. “Boxing is a hard sport, I train a lot, and a good fighter defeated me, it will be interesting to see how far he will go,” — said the British. “Congratulations to the first heavyweight champion of Mexico. Now he is the champion, but I will return,” — Joshua added.
Joshua won the IBF belt in 2016, the WBA belt in 2017 and the WBO belt in 2018. For Ruiz, it was the second fight for a title of the world champion. The first attempt was made in 2016 when he boxed for the WBO title but lost. The belt of the world champion on the remained version in a heavyweight – WBC — is owned by the American Deontay Wilder.
