During the last month, namely from mid-December to mid-January, there was a significant increase in the number of infants with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 in the UK. Experts attribute this to the rapid spread of the Omicron strain.

Recent data show that during the previous wave of coronavirus infection, about 30% of children hospitalized with a positive test for COVID-19 were under the age of one year. It is noted that from mid-December to mid-January 2022, this indicator has grown significantly and now stands at more than 40%.

However, despite the disappointing figures, British experts urge people not to worry about the rapid spread of Omicron, since, according to experts, the new strain does not threaten the life and health of the youngest patients.

It should be noted that the world’s leading experts have previously stated that COVID-omicron causes only a mild course of the disease in both adults and children. However, the other day in Finland, the first case of a child’s death from coronavirus was registered.
