“During the first phase of the ascent, an emergency occurred, which resulted in the loss of the rocket,” the report says.
It is specified that the rocket launch took place at the Vandenberg Air Force Base at 18:59 on Thursday. This was the first test flight of Alpha, which the company calls designed for the “booming market of small satellites.”
According to the Spaceflight Now portal, the explosion occurred 2.5 minutes after launch.
Firefly Aerospace intends to tell about the circumstances of the incident later. In the meantime, the company is collecting information about what happened.
