In India, the maximum number of deaths from COVID-19 per day was updated

In India, a new high in the number of deaths from COVID-19 was recorded — 4329 people died over the past day, the Indian Ministry of Health reported.

At the same time, 263.5 thousand infected people were identified in the country — for the second day in a row; the increase is less than 300 thousand. For the first time since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic, the leader in this indicator was not the state of Maharashtra — 26.6 thousand cases were registered there, while in Karnataka — 38.6 thousand, and Tamil Nadu — 33 thousand.

In total, more than 25.2 million people were infected with the coronavirus during the pandemic in India — in this indicator, it still ranks second in the world. The total number of deaths is approaching 280 thousand.

The number of vaccinated people is also growing — almost 185 million people, or about 13 percent of the country’s population, have already been vaccinated against COVID-19. The second wave of the pandemic began in India in February, and from April 21 to May 17, the number of new cases daily exceeded 300 thousand, more than in any other country in the world. Five times, it was more than 400 thousand.
