For the first time in history, 12 presidential contenders are taking part in the debate.

In Ohio, a record-breaking democratic election debate was taking place on Tuesday night. On stage in Westerville, 12 leading contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination meet at once. This is the first debate since the impeachment investigation against President Donald Trump began and the fourth in a row during the race.

All 10 candidates who participated in the September debate in Texas were selected, as well as Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and billionaire Tom Steyer, for whom the debate in Ohio will be the first.

Also taking part in the debate are the leaders of the race-former Vice President Joe Biden and senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, as well as businessman Andrew Yang, South bend mayor Peter Buttigieg, senators Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar, former housing Minister Julian Castro and former house member Beto O’Rourke.

One of the key topics was the impeachment investigation, launched after it emerged that Trump had asked Ukraine to launch an investigation into Biden. The President has repeatedly tried to shift attention to suspicions about Biden.

All democratic candidates expressed support for the investigation.

At the beginning of his speech, Joe Biden proclaimed Donald Trump “the most corrupt President in our history.”

Senator Elizabeth Warren said: “Sometimes there are issues more important than politics. Donald Trump broke the law. No one [can be] above the law. Impeachment must be carried out.” Warren added that impeachment is “the way in which… this man will not be allowed to break the law without consequences.”

Pete Buttigieg said that “the President left Congress no choice.” However, the majority of candidates were warned about the need for participation of all Americans to support the investigation. “We have to implement this process in a dignified way,” Senator Cory Booker said.

During the debate, the issue of Hunter Biden’s actions in Ukraine was touched.

“If the President’s family cannot participate in foreign business, then why was it possible for your son when you were Vice President?” CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, one of the debate moderators, asked Biden.

“My son has done nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong,” Biden said, immediately switching to the investigation into Trump’s possible impeachment. “I think it’s important… focus on removing this man from power, ” the former Vice President added
