An unnamed official representative of the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah assessed this attitude of the Americans as “very positive.”

The Palestinian authorities consider the upcoming visit of CIA Director William Burns to Israel and Palestine to demonstrate the seriousness of US President Joe Biden’s intentions to restore relations with the Palestinians. This was reported on Tuesday by The Jerusalem Post newspaper, citing an unnamed official representative of the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah (the Palestinian administrative center in the West Bank).

“[Burns’] visit demonstrates that the Biden administration is serious about restoring Washington’s relations with the Palestinians and strengthening the Palestinian institutions of power under the leadership of the president of the [State of Palestine] Mahmoud Abbas, “the publication quotes this representative, who assessed this attitude of the Americans as “very positive.”

On May 19, 2020, Abbas announced the termination of all agreements with the United States and Israel as a response to the plans of the Jewish state to annex territories in the West Bank in favor of settlements, which was planned for July of the same year as part of the peace plan presented by former US President Donald Trump, but never implemented, known as the “deal of the century.”
