All the detainees were sent to Mexico a few hours later.

U.S. border guards have detained 14 Mexican soldiers for illegally crossing the border with the United States. The Reuters news agency reported this.

As the agency was informed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service (CBP), the incident occurred around midnight on September 25 in the area of El Paso (Texas). According to the CBP statement, “two Mexican military vehicles crossed the border and entered the U.S. territory.” Employees of the U.S. border service detained 14 servicemen who were in cars for several hours. According to the latter, they crossed the border by accident and did not realize they were in the United States.

One of the detainees was found to have a small amount of marijuana intended not for sale but personal use. He will be subjected to administrative responsibility. Reuters does not specify whether it is a fine or any other measures. There were no other incidents during the detention; the Mexican military leadership was informed about the incident.

Reuters notes that all 14 detainees, their weapons, and cars were returned to Mexico within a few hours.
