In a dossier published by the media during the 2016 election race, it was claimed that the special services of the Russian Federation have personal and financial information discrediting the Republican.
The U.S. Federal Election Commission has fined the National Committee of the Democratic Party (NCDP) and the election headquarters of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for violations related to the financing of the preparation of a dossier with deliberately false allegations of collusion with Russia by Republican Donald Trump, who was previously the American leader. The relevant notification has been distributed by the commission.
In this dossier, published by the American media during the 2016 election race, it was claimed that the special services of the Russian Federation have personal and financial information discrediting Trump. The U.S. authorities have not been able to establish the authenticity of the information contained in these materials. It was established that the preparation of the dossier was paid for, in particular, by the NCDP and the headquarters of Clinton, who at that time was the Democratic presidential candidate. Trump was her main rival and eventually won the election.
As follows from the notification of the commission, the NCDP was fined $ 105 thousand. Clinton’s headquarters must pay $8 thousand. As specified in the document, the Democrats violated the law, because by paying for the preparation of the dossier through a law office, they indicated in the reports that the funds were directed to legal services, and not to collect data on political opponents.
The commission’s notice stresses that the NCDP and Clinton’s staff have agreed not to challenge its findings regarding this case. “We have settled these long-standing and stupid complaints from the 2016 election regarding the description of the goals [of spending funds] in our report to the Federal Election Commission,” a representative of the NCDP told reporters.
The dossier was compiled by the American company Fusion GPS, as well as a former employee of the British special services Christopher Steele and his London firm.
Trump has repeatedly stressed that the dossier is a fake and an example of a “total political witch hunt.” The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov previously stated that the Kremlin considers the topic of Moscow’s alleged compromising material on Trump closed.
