EE became the first UK Telecom operator to launch a 5G commercial network in the country. Journalists of The Verge tested the speed — the results against 3G and LTE are impressive. For measurements used OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, which caught the network in popular tourist locations — this is where the operator provided coverage.

The average speed after a series of measurements of 5G at several points was 200 megabits per second. In 4G-network, for comparison, this figure is 25 Mbit/s in the network of the same operator. The author notes that the 5G network is currently free — there are not so many subscribers, which affects the results.
The maximum rate reached 980 Mbit/s, in some places, there was no advantage over LTE — all the same, 33 Mbit/s.

The company EE, in turn, promises that with the emergence of more users, the speed of 5G will be about 100-150 Mbit/s faster than 4G.

The biggest problem, writes The Verge, is associated with the high energy consumption during connection to the new generation network — the measurements absorbed 50% of the charge.
