The midterm elections in the United States at the end of last year were the go-ahead for the start of the next election race. 59th presidential elections will be held on November 3, 2020, but in recent days, more and more candidates officially declare their ambitions.
First of all, we are talking about the Democratic Party, because the Republicans understand everything – the national Committee of the party recently announced that, as usual, it will support the nomination of the incumbent President, that is, Donald Trump.
But the Democrats of the primaries promise to be rich. Perhaps the only obvious campaign slogan of the Democratic Party is a complete rejection of trump’s policy and appeals to social justice, focused on national minorities, youth and socialists. But otherwise, the party has neither a clearly dominant ideological trend, nor an obvious leader.
Today officially about ten people declared intention to participate in fight, and at least as much declared readiness to join fight in the near future.
Another nominee the day before was Senator from California Kamala Harris, who has Indian and Jamaican roots. 54-year-old Harris, who positions her view as progressive, considered one of the favorites of the race. At one time, she became the first African-American Senator from California, for which she is sometimes called the female version of Barack Obama. In the center of her election program under the slogan “For the People” – reforms of the immigration and criminal justice system.
In addition to her most powerful figures still believe senators Elizabeth Warren (mA), Bernie Sanders (VT), Senator Cory Booker (NJ), Amy Klobuchar (MN) and Congressman from Texas, Beto O’rourke.
After the resounding defeat of the former Secretary of state Hillary Clinton in 2016, the Democratic Party was in crisis. Attempts of the party leadership to support Clinton and ignore the gaining strength of the socialist wing, personified by Senator Bernie Sanders, turned into a collapse. It became clear that it was time for the Democrats to change, but which ones were the open question.
However, the “old guard” does not want to part with the presidential ambitions. Thus, according to a CNN survey, the former Vice-President Joe Biden enjoys the greatest support among the democratic electorate so far. In addition, according to the channel, Hillary Clinton can try their strength for the third time. However, a significant obstacle for both is age. In 2020, Biden will be 79, and Clinton – 74. Trump won the election at 69 and became the oldest elected President of the United States.
Trump himself has repeatedly hinted that he would be only happy to nominate Hillary Clinton, because he does not consider her as a serious opponent.
The presidential primaries will start in February 2020. According to their results, the party at the Congress on July 13-16, 2020 will appoint its leader, who will challenge Donald Trump in the presidential election.
