Prisoners in the Lynchburg prison in the US state of Virginia barricaded themselves in one of the premises of the institution, forcing employees out of it, The Washington Post newspaper reports, citing the city police.
The police said on Tuesday evening that the prisoners forced out the employees at about 18.00 local time on Tuesday; later, the police and negotiators arrived at the scene.
The number of prisoners and their demands is still unknown. There were no reports of victims among the convicts or employees of the correctional institution.
