WASHINGTON – Iran shot down an American drone on Thursday. According to Iranian officials, it happened over the territory of the country, but US representatives say that the incident occurred in international airspace.
According to the Iranian version of events, the RQ-4 Global Hawk was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the air space of the province of Hormozgan in the South, near the Strait of Hormuz.
The American official said that we are talking about the drone MQ-4C Triton, which flew over the Strait of Hormuz.
The representative of the Central Command of the US armed forces, Navy captain Bill Urban said to FreeNews: “American aircraft today in Iranian airspace did not work.”
He declined to comment further on the incident.
The US military said Iran tried to shoot down an American drone last week.
The tension between the two countries has increased due to the attacks against oil tankers in the region, for which the US blames Iran. Tehran denies its involvement.
