Japanese authorities are set to limit the number of people who will accompany foreign leaders to the Tokyo Olympics, Kyodo news agency reported.
According to the agency’s sources, such a request has already been sent to the embassies of foreign countries. It is assumed that the head of a foreign state can be accompanied by no more than 11 people and the minister-no more than four.
Foreign leaders will not have to undergo a strict quarantine, but they will need to pass a PCR test for the coronavirus before departure and at the airport after arriving in Japan. Also, they will be banned from communicating with athletes and will be allocated special transport.
The final decision of the Japanese authorities will take into account the reactions of other states and the epidemiological situation both in Japan and abroad.
The Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to run from July 23 to August 8. It was reported that the Japanese authorities plan to hold it without foreign fans, but the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, said that a decision on this issue has not yet been made.
