Among them are two main ones – “Record of the Year” and “Album of the Year.”

American singer John Batiste this year became the leader in the number of nominations for the Grammy Music Award; he has 11 in total, including two main categories for artists – “Record of the Year” and “Album of the Year.” This became known after the announcement on Tuesday of the list of nominees for the award.

Canadian Justin Bieber and Americans Doja Cat and H.E.R. (Gabriella Wilson) will be represented in only eight categories, followed by Billy Ailish and Olivia Rodrigo with seven nominations.

Such recognition of the artist’s creativity can come from his versatility in music, in the works he combines jazz and the style of R’n’B native to a family of musicians from New Orleans, thanks to which the artist’s compositions are also presented in a number of categories of these genres.

In the “Record of the Year” nomination, Batiste with the song Freedom will compete with the reunited Swedish quartet ABBA, Billy Eilish, Justin Bieber, the duo of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, rapper Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, rap duets Silk Sonic and Doja Cat and SZA, as well as singer Brandi Carlile.

In the Album of the Year category, where the singer’s We Are album is presented, in addition to the aforementioned musicians, Taylor Swift is also present with the Evermore album, as well as Kanye West with the Donda compilation. It is noteworthy that the latter is listed not under his pseudonym “Ye,” but by his full name, despite the fact that last month a California court approved his application to change his official name to a pseudonym.

Canadian singer Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, who performs under the pseudonym Weeknd, who, after promising not to be nominated for the award anymore due to the fact that he was not nominated for an award in any of the 83 categories of the award last year, was credited as a nominee in three categories, but not with solo works. This year, the 44th U.S. President Barack Obama was also on the list of nominees, whose memoir “A Promised Land” will compete for the prize in the category of poetry and audiobooks.

The 64th Grammy Award Ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022. In total, the musicians will compete in 85 nominations, including two new ones – “Best World Musical Performance” in world Music and “Best Urban Album” for Latin American performers.
