Roger Stone was charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and witness tampering.
A jury on Friday sentenced Republican Roger Stone, a former adviser to President Donald Trump. Stone was found guilty on seven counts, including perjury in Congress, obstruction of justice and pressuring witnesses.
The 67-year-old Republican, who described himself as a “dirty Dodger” and “agent provocateur,” was accused of obstructing justice, pressuring witnesses and giving false testimony at a meeting of the House Intelligence Committee.
According to testimony, which, among other things, gave in court the former head of Trump’s campaign Steve Bannon and Rick Gates, the former Deputy Campaign Manager of the future President, Stone had information that the site WikiLeaks can publish documents stolen by hackers from the server of the Democratic National Committee. This information has damaged the image of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump’s rival in the 2016 election.
Prosecutors accused Stone of lying five times while testifying in the House of Representatives about the WikiLeaks website and its founder, Julian Assange.
