Macron announced plans to create an UN-controlled security zone in Kabul

French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris and London would call on the UN to create a “security zone” in the Afghan capital Kabul to protect humanitarian operations, Agence France-Presse reports, citing an interview with the French president to the Journal du Dimanche newspaper.

Earlier, a UN source told that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres plans to meet with the permanent representatives of the UN Security Council (Russia, the United States, Great Britain, France, and China) on the situation in Afghanistan on Monday, August 30.

According to Macron, France and the United Kingdom will submit a draft resolution to the UN with the aim of “establishing an UN-controlled security zone in Kabul that will allow humanitarian operations to continue.”
