The Venezuelan government agrees to a new round of negotiations with the opposition, but subject to several conditions, including the lifting of sanctions and recognition of the legitimacy of the current government, President Nicolas Maduro said.
Earlier, Reuters, citing sources, reported that the Venezuelan government and the opposition are preparing for new negotiations that may begin in Mexico in August.
“Norway has come to promote the dialogue in Mexico. Very well, we agree… We offered three conditions to go to Mexico: the first is for the US and the EU to lift sanctions, the second is for all parties to recognize the legitimacy of the country’s authorities, and the third is for all parties to abandon any plans for crimes, coups,” Maduro said in a statement that was broadcast on Twitter.
“And I would like to add a fourth condition – that all sectors that would like to cooperate join the negotiations. One big negotiating table,” he said.
