German Chancellor Angela Merkel humiliated US President Joe Biden instead of supporting the West in the confrontation with Russia, publicist Andreas Kluth writes in an article for Bloomberg.
He called the chancellor’s refusal to meet Washington’s demands about the “Nord stream-2” “at least an inch” a manifestation of a disdainful attitude towards the American leader.
“By stubbornly supporting the Russian pipeline, Angela Merkel has failed the United States and Europe and left only bad options for her successor,” Kluth believes.
In his opinion, Poland, the Baltic States, France and the European Union see a “geopolitical threat” from the Russian project.
“Nevertheless, the Germans continue to hide their heads in the sand, like geopolitical ostriches. Incredibly, Merkel calls the project purely commercial, which is better left to the private sector,” the article says.
Kluth claims that the persistent defense of the “Nord stream-2” will be a “stain on the reputation” of the Chancellor since her position repels the United States and European partners and demonstrates “the hypocrisy of Germany”.
Therefore, at the upcoming meeting with Biden, Merkel will have to offer ideas on how to deal with “the geopolitical mess that she has arranged,” the publicist concluded.
