At the Paris Chatelet Theater, the best football player of 2021 was announced according to France Football magazine. The Golden Ball was awarded to PSG forward Lionel Messi for the seventh time, who thus updated his own record for this indicator. Previously, the Argentinian was awarded the most prestigious individual award in football in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019. The second place is given to Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), and the third place is given to Jorginho (Chelsea).
In October, France Football presented a list of nominees for the award, which included 30 football players. But for most fans and experts, it was obvious that there were two main contenders: Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski.
As a result, preference was given to the Argentine, who this year won the Copa America as part of his national team, as well as the Spanish Cup as part of Barcelona. In addition, he became the top scorer of the Examples-2020/2021.
Robert Lewandowski also had another great season. But still, he could not get ahead of the famous Argentinian in the fight for the Golden Ball. The Pole, however, did not remain without a reward. The Bayern footballer received the prize for the best striker of the year, which was awarded for the first time this year.
Barcelona’s Spanish midfielder Pedri has won the Copa Trophy, which goes to the best footballer of the year under the age of 21.
Italian goalkeeper of the French PSG Gianluigi Donnarumma was named the best goalkeeper of the year (this is the Lev Yashin prize).
Spaniard Alexia Putellas from Barcelona won the award for the best footballer of the year.
And Chelsea London, which won the Champions League – 2020/2021, was named the best club of the year.
